Overview
At the end of 2003, Austria's trunk road financing company, Autobahnen- und Schnellstraßen-Finanzierungs-Aktiengesellschaft
(Asfinag), decided to have part of its road network extended on the basis of public-private partnerships (PPP). To handle this
venture, the company set up the four-package "East Region Road Program". The first package, named "Ypsilon", was announced in September
2004. In December 2006, the Bonaventura consortium was commissioned to realize the 51-kilometer section of the Vienna northeastern
bypass.
First PPP road project in Austria
HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions GmbH is leader of the consortium, in which it has a
44.4 percent stake. Together with its consortium
partners, the company will finance and build the highway section and subsequently operate it for a period of 30 years. When the contract
period expires, the highway will be handed over to Asfinag in perfect condition. This is the first PPP road project in Austria.
