Overview
Three-lane highway without crossings
Since January 2006, Vespucio Norte Express, the approximately 30 kilometer-long
northwestern section of Santiago de Chile's beltway, has been open to traffic.
At the end of 2001, the Ministry for Public Works in Chile awarded HOCHTIEF and
its partners the contract for planning, financing, constructing and operating
the toll-based beltway, with a total investment volume of approximately EUR 520
million. The B.O.T (build, operate, transfer) project Vespucio Norte Express is
part of Chile's ongoing concession program.
To ease the road traffic situation
in the Chilean capital, the existing two-lane road was expanded into a free-flow
three-lane beltway.
The consortium in which HOCHTIEF is involved won this future-oriented project in
the face of strong international competition. HOCHTIEF's share is 45 percent.
The 30-year concession contract came into effect with the start of the
construction works in April 2003. After expiry of the concession contract,
ownership of the beltway is transferred to the Chilean state.
